Movie pick of the week: Felon

The Plot:

Wade Porter (Stephen Dorff) is a loving family man, owns a business and is a few months away from marrying his girlfriend. However, one night a burglar enters Wades home. Wade, pursuing the burglar, follows him out onto the front lawn and subsequently strikes the burglar across the head with a baseball bat, killing him. The courts, while sympathetic to Wade's case, are nevertheless compelled by the evidence to reject his plea of self-defence and convict him of manslaughter. Wade's subsequent incarceration forces him into a world unlike any he had known before. First the crowded confines of the county jail, and then 'The SHU', the high security unit of San Quentin State Prison. The SHU is 'hard time' - 23 hours a day in a concrete box, shackles, orders, and no warnings. The only freedoms left to Wade are in his head and in the yard. But the yard, as he soon finds out, has been turned into a figurative gladiatorial arena for the inmates of The SHU, where prison politics and violence rules, and you had better be good at both. As he struggles to survive inside, Wade discovers two things - the humanity of his cellmate, an infamous multiple murderer (Val Kilmer), and the growing sadism of one of the guards.

My comment after watching this film..

This movie give me this picture "NOT EVERYBODY in the prison is BAD". Some of these inmates may perhaps are innocent men, just like Wade Porter and Lincoln Burrows in Prison Break. The truth is whenever we met someone that just come out of prison (orang yang ade kes, tak semestinya banduan je) we start to give that person ‘that look’. I think you know what I mean. I do myself sometimes think /act that way, but that’s not good kan. Just imagine that the person is your family member, and you know people around you are talking about your family. Isn’t it painful? But what can you do? You want to hit them because they talk behind your back? So, if you don’t like others to treat your family that way, stop treating others like that. My point here is, not everybody in the prison is a bad person. Ni sebab aku pernah saje2 bergurau dengan kawan cakap, “apa kata kita buat lawatan pergi penjara, jumpe dengan banduan kat sane dengar cerita diaorang.” Cepat je sorang my friend ni jawab “buat ape jumpe sampah masyarakat.” Sampah masyarakat?? Jangan hina mereka, kerana siapa tahu mereka telah insaf dan Allah angkat darjat mereka lagi tinggi daripada kita... Don’t you forget the story of Nabi ALLAH Yusuf A.S. He also went into prison. In his prayer he said

“Ya Allah, sekiranya berada di dalam penjara ini adalah lebih baik bagiku dan dapat mendekatkan lagi aku padamu, biarlah aku kekal di dalam ini Ya Allah.”

I believe how bad that person is, he surely can inspires people to do good things without he himself realize about it. Just like Fahrin in Ayat-ayat Cinta. The moment he’s in prison, it was this ‘crazy’ old man that reminded him about Allah. Moral of the story, Allah guidance is everywhere. It can be from a begger that knocks on your car’s window when you stop at a traffic light or even from banduan penjara. Post saya bukan berkhutbah, cuma betuli diri jua. Salam mesra.. (^_^)

p/s: Actually nak comment gak pasal Wade and his girlfriend, but dah penat sangat maybe later~
